Idli sambar recipe

Idli is one of the main dishes in the south part of India. It is a very popular dish in southern India. It is also called as fluffy and soft steamed cake which is made by rice. You can have idli as your breakfast. Idli is said to be light as it contains no fats, saturated fats or cholesterol. Further it is easy to digest so it is a very suitable breakfast for children and elders.


So, Here is the ingredients you need to make idli:


  • 2 cups grinded rice

  • 1 cup urad dal (white)

  • 1 ½ tbsp salt

  • A pinch of salt

  • Oil for greasing


Making process:


Step:1- First we need to wash the Urad dal very nicely for two to three times. After washing soaked the dal for 8 hours.


Step:2- After 8 hours take the soaked dal and drain all the water from it.


Step:3- Now grind the dal into the grinder and turn it into a fine and smooth paste.


Step:4- Now mix the paste of dal with grinded rice and make a smooth batter.


Step:5- Now mix the salt into the batter and put it aside for 8 to 9 hours for fermenting.


Step:6- After 8 hours you need to check whether batter is well fermented or not. If yes then your batter is fully ready for making idli.


Step:7- Now grease the idli holder or pan  with oil nicely and fill each of them with ¾ of batter.


Step:8- Now steam the idlis on medium flame for about 10 minutes.


Step:9- Use the butter knife for removing the idli from the idli holder.



Step:10- Now your idli is ready to serve. You can serve it with sambar or chutney.
